SPECIFIC SNACK GUIDELINESIn order to comply with DCFS nutritional requirements, we have come up with specific food categories in which snack items must be selected from. These categories are not suggestions: DCFS has mandated that our snacks must conform to the food groups printed on the calendar. In order to minimize the confusion, we have included specific choices below from each category that you (and your child) can choose from. One food item from each category must be provided and only foods on this list may be brought as they meet the DCFS nutritional guidelines. If you have additional ideas, please check with the Health and Safety Chairperson before bringing these items for snack to see if the foods meet the nutritional guidelines. Please make sure to keep this list so that you can refer to it throughout the year when purchasing snacks or bookmark this page in your web browser for easy reference. DCFS also requires that we serve only store bought foods. Unfortunately, we are unable to serve homemade items (including birthdays – only store bought cupcakes or goodies will be allowed). Due to severe food allergies, HCP is a peanut free and tree nut free school. Please check all labels for any peanut or tree nut product ingredients or information that the food item may have been made at a plant that also uses peanuts (most packaging labels will indicate whether the food is/isn’t peanut free). HCP has napkins, adult silverware for cutting, cups, plastic forks, spoons, and spreading sticks available. Snacks, such as yogurt or cottage cheese, may be brought in individual containers or in a large sized container and dished into cups or bowls. The school also has a microwave, toaster oven, refrigerator, and popcorn maker if needed for any snack item. Please ask your child’s teacher for other specific items you may need. Children with food restrictions due to allergies, medical condition or religious beliefs may bring their own snack in a labeled container. Please alert your child’s teacher to these conditions. Choose from the list of snack items listed below:
Monday: fruit, raw vegetables, plain crackers, and 2% milk:
Tuesday: fruit , cheese, bread product, and 100% juice
Wednesday: fruit, snack product, crackers, and 2% milk
Thursday: Fruit, Snack Product, Cheese, and 100% juice
