bullet

Friday afternoon from 12:45-2:45

The Horizons Enrichment Class for Kindergarteners is designed to increase interest and knowledge in Social Studies and Geography through the use of books and literature.  Children’s Literature themes will guide the curriculum and incorporate the Kindergarten Standards for Learning.

The class will be held once a week and will follow HCP’s tradition of play based learning.  Planned activities and experiences will include all developmental domains:  literacy, math, art, music, science, geography, fine and gross motor (outdoor play).

Session Highlights

Each week a selection of children’s literature will introduce students to a new geographic location.  Thematic units will emphasize U.S. Geography for Session I and World Geography for Session II.

Topics from the stories will be further explored through the use of non-fiction books.  Materials, such as maps and travel logs, will be available for discussions within the classroom and at home.
